Our vision.
When COVID-19 hit, we watched America’s Main Street crumble. Up to 30% of small businesses faced long-term closures. Thousands shut their doors for good. Meanwhile, big companies thrived.
2020 cemented for us that small businesses are the heartbeat of every community. They bring character, a shared identity, and a vibrant culture.
And they're worth fighting for.
In 2016, my best friend Adam and I started a small business.
It thrived, and we crafted a playbook we believed could work for more than just our single business. Fast forward to 2020 — amid the chaos, we saw a chance to support and preserve the small business community, while also proving out our playbook.
A retiring owner was ready to pass the torch. We stepped in with fresh legs, capital, and a growth plan we were excited to execute. We recognized the talent and dedication of a leader within the company and entrusted her with the role of operator.
Together we 5x’ed the business in the first year. That’s when we knew we were onto something.
So we acquired our third business. Then a fourth…and we’ve been growing, one move at a time, ever since.
Decada Group is self-funded. No outside capital. No external pressures. No return targets for shareholders — we don't even use the word ‘shareholders’.
Our first business funded our second. Those both funded our third. And so on. This independence from investors gives us the ability to build with intention.
Being on the front lines of small business taught us one thing: it’s hard. Vision is just the beginning. Then comes hiring, payroll, taxes, finance, and a slew of other challenges. In the age of Amazon, it's even harder.
That’s why we founded Decada Group.
Small business needs an unfair advantage. We work to acquire and grow businesses in our community that we love, and usher them into a second chapter as bold as its first.
We honor the retiring founder's legacy by bringing energy, capital, and empowering the right leadership to ensure our businesses thrive and fulfill their original founding vision.
Every day, we apply our hard-won lessons to our portfolio. We leverage the collective strength of Decada Group to ensure each business succeeds.
Small businesses are the lifeblood of every community. Our mission is to help these businesses thrive. It’s about being a positive presence. A caring neighbor. A dedicated employer.
A better business.
